Roland Hernandez is a Business Development Manager and Engineer for Bell Structural Solutions, a division of the ALAMCO Wood Products glued-laminated timber manufacturing plant. Roland's background in Engineered Wood Products goes back 30 years, to his Texas A&M graduate work in glued-laminated timber (B.S.'88, M.S.'90). Immediately after A&M, he served as a wood scientist for 17 years for the USDA Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, WI - with a primary research area of glued-laminated timber, where he published over 50 publications that advanced the state-of-the-art in the glulam industry. Examples include - development of the 3000F glulam combination (strongest glulam design values in the industry today); establishing design values for hardwood glulam; and establishing the design methodology used today for glulam utility poles. After leaving the research world, he served as an Engineered Wood Specialist for APA - The Engineered Wood Trade Association. Primary role was to offer technical seminars and training on all aspects of Engineered Wood Products. Since 2016, he has served as Business Development Manager and Engineer for Bell Structural Solutions out of his San Antonio office. Primary focus is to offer turnkey packages for Heavy Timber glulam and Mass Timber commercial packages. Bell Structural Solutions is an AIA accredited CE Provider.
