Construction Nuts and Bolts

Many contractors have never been instructed on the basics of selling in their industry. They regularly make the same mistakes over and over again, losing them project after project. 1. Proper sales discipline

2. Setting targets

3. Maintaining customers

4. Expanding customers

5. Profit focused selling

Expectations in sales improvement can be expected in attending. Sales non-improvement can be expected by not attending.

Target Audience: Architects, General Contractors, Subcontractors, and Suppliers

Thursday: 1:15pm - 2:15pm
Maximizing Associations to Gain Customers

Many contractors never join relevant associations that can produce revenue for them. Even worse they spend the dues money and don't maximize the effectiveness of the association. We will layout how to determine what associations to join, how to work them and get business from your involvement. The single greatest way to find grouped customers and network contacts is right in your backyard association! Work them to the fullest and you'll never make a cold call again!

Beating the Low Bid Game: Closing Deals in Construction

9:30am - 11:00am - Wednesday

Many contractors struggle to get their clients to pull the trigger. They hope the bid they turned in will work some magic. Then itdoesn't and they blame the customer. There are techniques to be in a better position with the customer and tilt the scales. Few practice them effectively.

1. What's my position with the customer?
2. How do I make sure my bid is the benchmark?
3. Why am I always second?
4. What is my "real" close rate?
5. How do I eliminate my competition?

Target Audience: Architects, General Contractors, Subcontractors, and Suppliers

Beating the Low Bid Game: Getting the Next Job

9:30am - 11:00am - Thursday

Getting the second job after winning or losing the first can be a challenge. Your posture after success or failure is critical to the next opportunity. Many contractors and vendors create their own issues in relation to securing additional business. Even though they've just finished a deal with the customer. What are the ways of getting that next opportunity?

1. What to do after a loss or win?
2. Why do I have to compete on every project?
3. What should my expectations be of my customer?
4. How do I self evaluate?
5. How do I gain customer loyalty?

Target Audience: Architects, General Contractors, Subcontractors, and Suppliers

Using Probabilistic Analysis to Improve Project Performance

09:30am - 11:00am - Wednesday

As large-scale construction projects become more complex, project schedules and budgets become more susceptible to unexpected risks. Managing these risks involves all phases of the project, from planning through execution.

By using a probabilistic modeling of the project cost and schedule, you can proactively plan for, mitigate, and react to project risks. This session will focus on project managers, sponsors / owners and planners of large-scale industrial projects. We will provide case studies of how these techniques can be applied on your projects.

Target Audience: Architects, General Contractors, Subcontractors, and Suppliers

Program Risk vs. Project Risk:  Integrating the Schedules of Several Interrelated Projects

09:30am - 11:00am - Thursday

A large-scale construction project is complex enough – especially when things are not going as well as expected. But what happens when you have a program of interrelated and interdependent projects all going at once? You may find that a minor delay within one of your projects can cascade into a major delay for some of the others.

By using a probabilistic modeling of the project schedule, you can better understand the impact of the "Program Critical Path" vs the individual "Project Critical Paths". This session will focus on program managers, sponsors / owners and planners of large-scale industrial programs. We will provide case studies of how these techniques can be applied on your projects.

Target Audience: Architects, General Contractors, Subcontractors, and Suppliers

Protect Your Project from Termite Destruction

11:00am - 12:00pm - Wednesday

Protecting a new construction from termites is not the easiest task as termites are an aggressive, relentless pest that feeds around-the-clock. They often go undetected since they frequently enter through the soil beneath a structure.

The type of construction – floating, supported, monolithic slab – on which a structure is built, will dictate the type of treatment needed to eliminate termites before they attack and threaten the structural integrity of the wood beams, supports, floor and ceiling joists, decking, shipping pallets and finishing that contain items high in cellulose.

Jeff Keller, Associate Certified Entomologist (ACE) and Regional Manager at Holder's Pest Solutions, will discuss the treatments that correspond to each type of construction and other preventative techniques that builders can use to minimize the risk of termites ruining their projects and cutting into their profits. Keller will also educate participants on the three types of termites in southeast Texas and the different habits and risks associated with each type of termite.
